Emotional Support

Having any illness or surgery exacts a toll on a person emotionally.  Having ostomy surgery exacts  even a greater toll.

It is common to experience many different emotions. Dealing with a new ostomy and body image change can prove to be difficult. Concerns about ostomy care, sexual issues, odor, and returning to work are normal, and quite common.

It is important to remember to communicate your emotions and concerns about living with an ostomy. Some people feel sad, angry, and /or anxious about their new ostomy. It is when these feelings interfere with “life” that additional emotional support maybe be necessary.
