A WOCN is a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse. Our old title was ET (enterostomal therapy) nurse. Both titles are a bit of a mouthful. WOC nurses have gone for a specialty schooling with about 160 hours (I believe...can't remember) of supervised clinical time, and courses pertaining to wounds, ostomies, and incontinence issues. The schools need to be certified through the specialty -WOC, and we need to take certification exams. The WOC nurse needs to recertify every five years.
Wounds, drains, fistulas, pressure ulcers, problematic ostomies are just a few health issues we deal with.
The reason I did not answer this question is because I did not know anyone uses the forum page. I intended this to be an active forum but UOAA got up and going just before I did.
And...it was posted by my better half.
Feel free to ask questions or post coments.
